Footpath safety fears
FEARS about public safety have been raised in connection with pedestrian access to Goole Leisure Centre.
Questions were asked at a recent meeting of Goole Town Council about the lack of a footpath on the final stretch of roadway up to the centre from North Street.
Councillors agreed it was of concern that people in wheelchairs and those with pushchairs were particularly in danger from traffic negotiating the car park - an issue made worse by the recent alterations to the car park which had resulted in all cars having to use just one entrance into the Farm Foods and Lidl section directly in front of the Leisure Centre.
Coun Keith Moore said Goole Town Council should ask East Riding Council, which owns the Leisure Centre, to carry out a risk assessment.
It was agreed that Couns Pat O'Neil and Beryl Beck-Taylor would take the issue up with ERYC.
An ERYC spokesman, however, told the Courier that the road was not a public highway but simply part of the car park.
"There is no requirement for a pavement in this part of the car park. Also, the council has never had a report of an incident there.
