LITTLE Grace Loughton really is one in a million ... after arriving into the world on exactly the same day as her mother Sarah was born.
Sarah gave birth to Grace on New Year’s Day - the same day she was was conceived 24 years earlier.
Sarah, who works as a cashier at William Hill in Selby, said her daughter was due to arrive on December 23 but she eventually struck the jackpot nine days when 6lbs 13ozs Grace arrived.
She said: “Once it had gone past the 23rd I just had this feeling it was going to be Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.
“I was really shocked when she arrived on the same day as my birthday.”
Grace’s father Dave Lyon was also quids-in after he won a sweepstake at his local, the Station Inn, on the date his daughter would be born.
Sarah was speaking after Grace’s first trip out; to the Albion Vaults pub, which Sarah’s mum Sharon and dad John run.
“Everyone in the pub kept coming up to have a look. They loved her.”
Sarah says that she hasn’t ruled out a cheeky bet on Grace herself giving birth on the same date in years to come!
She said: “I’ve been told to do it, as I think I’d get pretty good odds. It’s worth a pound bet!”
A William Hill spokesman said the odds of a mother and her baby being born on the same day were “probably a golden million-to-one.”
Grace was one of three babies from the Selby area born on New Year’s Day.
Maxwell Baxter-Kershaw, of Hillam, was born first and Jane Walker, of Wressle, also gave birth to a baby boy.
