Members of Thorpe Willoughby’s Art classes have pitched together to sketch a painting that will adorn the walls of Selby War Memorial Hospital.
One of the art class’s projects last year was to produce a group painting that reflects the members’ pride in their home town of Selby.
Having decided to create an image of Selby Abbey they selected a photograph from a series of snaps taken by Mr Peter Sorrell, a member of Selby Camera Club.
The photograph was then scaled up in size and then cut into twelve rectangular pieces.
The students then chose sections to work from using acrylic paint and when completed the pieces were fitted together to produce a stunning image of the Abbey.
They felt it would be of interest to the Selby public at large and approached the hospital with a view to displaying the painting for the visitors and staff to enjoy.
Julie Corbally, of Selby War Memorial Hospital, said: “We would like to thank the members of the class for this beautiful painting.
“We are very happy to have the painting displayed in the main waiting area for the benefit and enjoyment of all our visitors and staff.”
