Health team celebrates great year
MOTIVATION is the key to a healthier lifestyle and a support service that offers encouragement to those wanting to make the move is celebrating a year of success.
Healthtrainers, based at The Courtyard in Goole, have helped around 150 residents kick their old unhealthy ways and get on track to a fitter future.
Funded by the NHS, it is part of a countrywide scheme in response to Government concerns about the health of the nation.
A team of three healthtrainers in Goole have helped people to exercise more, stop smoking, drink less alcohol, lose weight and reduce stress levels by encouraging them to set achievable goals, develop a personal plan and overcome barriers to a healthier lifestyle.
They come from a variety of backgrounds but all have knowledge and experience of living and working in the local community, on top of which they have undergone extensive training.
Team member, Tracy Butler, said: "We understand how difficult it can be to make healthy choices sometimes and we realise it is not always a matter of doing something dramatic but of taking time to make small strides towards a healthier lifestyle."
This may involve supporting someone to go to the gym, go swimming, or go out for a walk, she said, adding that users of the free service had access to six sessions of up to an hour with a healthtrainer.
"We are also able to signpost people to further appropriate help, for instance if they do not know where to get help to stop smoking, or with mental health difficulties," said Tracy.
