Hitting the right note
MP Andrew Percy gets into the groove by trying out some of the new music equipment awarded to Goole High School, with Shaun Schwegler (Year 11) on drums, Devin McMath (Year 10) and Anne-Marie Littlefair (Year 7).
An award of instruments and accessories worth £1,150 have struck a chord among Goole High School students.
The haul includes three guitars, a drum kit, cymbals, plectrums and guitar strings and follows successful applications to two funding bodies.
A total of £500 worth of equipment has come from the EMI Music for Schools grant fund with the remaining £650 of equipment coming from the Split Infinitive Trust.
Music teacher Sarah Gage, said: “We have some very talented musicians at school and they are thrilled with the new equipment. Both requests were sent as part of a bigger bid to the Arts Council to develop a recording studio and rehearsal space for the people of Goole and its surrounding areas. This bid has been rejected once, but we will be resubmitting it in the near future.”
Brigg and Goole MP Andrew Percy visited the school this week and said: “It’s great for the students to have quality instruments to help them to learn and develop their musical talents. Most of them can play a lot better than I can!”
