Labour's position on Goole Town Council is weakened

EIGHT Labour councillors, seven Liberal Democrats and two independents will sit on Goole Town Council following last Thursday's elections.

This means the Labour group still hold the edge on the newly elected council but their position has been weakened as prior to the election they outnumbered the Lib Dems eight to five.

Five new councillors will take their seats on the council - Mark Jones, Kevin Ellis, Eric Raddings, James Holbrough and Raymond Johnson.

William Frost, David Hobson, Stephen White and Alan Turner failed to get re-elected while long-serving Labour councillor Mick Armitage decided not to stand.

New Lib Dem councillor, 60-year-old Eric Raddings, told The Courier: "I want what's best for Goole and if it comes from Labour or an Independent I will support it if it is sensible and helps Goole move forward."

New Labour councillor, 54-year-old Raymond Johnson, said: "I am surprised to get in to be honest but I am delighted. People will come first for me, party politics will come second."

The new councillors will come together at the Goole Town Council meeting, followed by the Annual General Meeting, at East Riding's Church Street offices on Monday at 7.30pm.
