Man assaulted in town centre

A man was found unconscious by police in the street in Selby in the early hours of Sunday morning after being assaulted.

Officers were called after a 19-year old man was found in Finkle Street at about 2.20am. He was taken to York Hospital with injuries and later released.

A 19-year old man was later arrested before being released on police bail.

Any witnesses to the incident are asked to call 101 and quote reference number 12130026134.

* A man was found behind a bar in a Selby pub next to an open drinks fridge and with a bottle in his hand, a court was told.

Daniel Steward, 19, appeared before Selby magistrates last Thursday and denied a charge of burglary and one of common assault on a female member of the doorstaff at the Black-a-Moor pub during his apprehension.

Philip Morris, prosecuting, told how Steward, of York, was found in the unauthorised area of The Vodka Bar in the pub and assaulted Nicola McCall when she tried to escort him away from the scene on January 12.

Steward was granted conditional bail - not to enter licenced premises in Gowthorpe, Market Cross, Finkle Street and Wide Street, Selby - until his trial before magistrates in York on June 7.

* A 66-year-old man has been committed to stand trial before a crown court on a denied assault charge.

David Wright, 66, of Sutton Lane, Byram, appeared before Selby magistrates last Thursday facing an allegation of occasioning actual bodily harm to his neighbour, Brian Naylor, on October 3, last year.

The case was adjourned until March 22 when committal to York Crown Court is expected to take place and Wright was re-admitted to conditional bail - to have no contact with Mr Naylor, or go into the house and grounds at his address in Sutton Lane.

* A man is to stand trial before magistrates on an allegation of assault in Selby.

Stephen Newby, 23, who has previously denied a charge of assaulting Douglas Hewitt by beating him in Ousegate, Selby, on August 20, last year, is to appear for his trial before magistrates in York on June 10.

Selby magistrates granted Newby, of Birch Mews, Goole unconditional bail on Thursday (February 14) until his trial.
