TOTS at Monk Fryston Primary School have been putting together a tree of knowledge.
As part of their Knowledge and Understanding work, the four and five year olds were also given cameras to take pictures of each other. They made a tree and stuck photos of the adults in the school community on its trunk.
Then they cut out hand shapes, coloured them and pasted them on the tree together with their photos.
Foundation teacher Anne Boulton said: “It was learning through play. They had a lot of fun.
“They didn’t realise they were learning, but they were. We want to show them they are part of a school family.
“We had pictures of all the adults including the teachers, the head teacher, the caretaker and then they loved taking their own photos.”
Anne continued: “It’s designed to give them a sense of belonging, of being part of a family.”
The tree theme would be continued with an art project about David Hockney’s tree pictures, showing the changing seasons.
Anne said that Selby Times photographer Tony Saxton had given the snappers an impromptu talk when he came to take their pictures.
She added: “The children really enjoyed it and I did too.”
