MP gives Year 11 pupils a lesson
Andrew Percy MP paid a visit to Snaith School recently. He is pictured being interviewed by U Magazine reporter Tom Rennie.
INTRIGUED schoolchildren in Snaith got a Parliamentary lesson from Goole MP Andrew Percy.
Mr Percy was at Snaith School to lead a lesson with Year 11 citizenship pupils on the role of an MP and how laws are made in Parliament.
The MP, who used to be a teacher, spent a morning teaching two different sets of students before doing an interview for the school newspaper.
Mr Percy said: “Since getting elected to Parliament, I have really missed teaching in the classroom, which is why I am always willing to go into schools to help in whatever way I can.
“Citizenship is a really important subject and one which I can really help with.
“I can’t pretend the inner workings of Parliament and the law-making process is the most interesting subject for a teenager, but I was pleasantly surprised at how many seemed interested in the subject. Politics does after all impact on most aspects of daily life!
“I was also really pleased to be asked to do an interview by Snaith’s answer to Jeremy Paxman, Year ten pupil Tom Rennie.
“U Magazine is written by students for students and the questions Tom posed to me were tougher than I expected!”
