MP’s poignant cadet memories
CADETS in Selby have been presented with a certificate by one of their own – the town’s MP Nigel Adams – recognising their fund-raising efforts for charity.
Mr Adams presented Selby Army Cadet Force with a certificate after they collected more than £350 on behalf of SSAFA Forces Help, the charity which helps ex-service personnel.
It was particularly poignant for Mr Adams to present the award, as he was an Army Cadet himself at the same drill hall in Selby 30 years ago.
He said: “It was a real thrill for me to visit the drill hall again after 30 years. I enjoyed my time as an Army Cadet in Selby and am delighted that they are still going strong.”
In June, the cadets raised £374.51p from the general public in Selby by way of a street collection. Mr Adams said: “Selby should be proud of these young men and women who’ve done a fantastic job in raising this money, and Sgt Major Mick Topping and his team should also be very proud.”
