Naked firefighters raise £7,000
NEWS: News.
BLAZING a trail when it comes to fundraising are Selby firefighters.
Officers from Blue Watch last year shot a saucy calendar for 2013 in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support, a fundraiser backed by the Selby Times.
The charity helped crew member Lee Adkin’s father during his final months of the illness and the team decided to promote the cause by selling the calendars throughout Selby.
Laidlaw Worthy, a colleague of Lee, said: “When Lee’s dad was poorly, he was overwhelmed with the help and support from the Macmillan nurses and the relief support which they received.
“This, combined with seeing local people’s lives lost and ruined by losing their homes or businesses, has inspired us to bare all in the flesh.”
He added: “We also wanted to share our knowledge and advice on fire to help the people in our community and North Yorkshire.”
The final amount raised from the sale of the calendars was over £7,000 and the proceeds were due to be handed over to a representative of Macmillan Cancer Support at Selby Fire Station today.
See next week’s Selby Times for a photograph from the presentation and more information.
