Official opening of new Gofar offices

COMMUNITY transport scheme, Goole Gofar, officially opened its new town-based offices last week.

The GoFar was originally based at The Courtyard, but with its vehicle compound being developed, new premises were needed.

They were able to find parking at the old dairy depot on Mariners Street, thanks to local businessman Matt Seaman who had bought the property to develop it into a vehicle service centre

Operations co-ordinator Andy Smith told the Courier: "This meant our buses were at one end of the town and our offices at the other. Fortunately, upon developing the site, Matt found he was also able to offer us office space…problem solved.

"We moved into the new offices on January 6."

The ribbon cutting was carried out last Friday by Robin and Sheri Seaman, Matt's parents and part of the GoFar team, who along with Matt had worked tirelessly on getting the offices ready.

Also attending were the town mayor, Councillor John Frost, and his wife, who presented the GoFar with a Goole Town Council grant of 1,000.

The cash is to be used to offer day trips to the people of Goole and the surrounding areas who for reasons of age, sickness or ability cannot easily access regular transport.

Ian Cawsey MP, who has been a supporter of the GoFar since it started and also helped with the recent successful lottery funding bid, also attended the opening event.

He said: "Goole Go Far used to have an office on the same floor as mine in the Courtyard and I have seen how the organisation has grown over the years and how popular it has become.

"This move gives them an opportunity to have bigger premises in the town centre where their vehicles can also be kept and I can see it is an ideal site for them.

"I hope that they have many successful years in their new location and that they will continue to provide transport for many worthy local groups who would struggle without them."

The GoFar would like to thank everyone who attended the event
