Pass your exams and look cool
A FORMER Goole Grammar School pupil has designed a new website to help students pass their GCSE's whilst looking cool.
Barrie McDermid (34), who used to live on both Weatherill and Jackson Street, currently teaches English in County Durham and has introduced the site to try to encourage pupils to revise with the help of their MP3 players.
The website allows children to download poetry revision and lessons to their iPods and aims to be the 'cool way to pass your English Language and Literature GCSE's'.
Barrie told the Courier: "Basically I noticed that the kids were paying more attention to their Walkmans than my classes, and pay them far more attention than books.
"So I thought if you can't beat them, join them.
"They can now be revising on the way home, in the evening or to and from school without anyone knowing."
He added: "I am a musician and enjoy recording and it is a way of combining two passions.
"The feedback has been really positive and although we are never going to get a situation where everyone is using it, a lot are and the guestbook has had a lot of good comments."
One Year 11 student has even remixed one of the poems with a drum and bass beat.
The website describes its purpose, 'to provide professionally produced podcast lessons students can revise to anywhere they want and still look cool'.
The podcasts are provided in MP3 format and are free from.podcast revision.co.uk.
Positive feedback left in the guestbook, include: 'This is absolutely fantastic. My kids will love it,' and 'Excellent stuff. Both interesting and informative thank you.'
