Police update on Selby purse thefts
POLICE investigating two purse thefts in Selby last week have released further details of the incident.
Officers have obtained descriptions of two women believed to be responsible for thefts at Morrison’s and Tesco on Wednesday 23 January 2013.
One of the women is described as having mousey hair tied back into a pony tail. She was wearing black sheepskin-lined ankle-length boots, with black skinny jeans which had a bright green waistband, a black top, a brown coat with a fur hood and a black scarf.
The second woman wore black knee-length boots, light blue jeans, a dark Barbour coat, and a dark-coloured checked scarf.
Police are appealing to anyone who recognises the women from their description to get in touch.
The first theft occurred at around 10.30am when a woman had her purse stolen from her pocket in Yorkshire Trading Co, on Gowthorpe.
Around an hour later, a 64-year-old woman also had her purse stolen in a charity shop on Finkle Street.
It is believed the two thefts are linked and officers have released a description of the suspects.
The first suspect is an Asian man, with dark hair. He was wearing a dark-coloured jacket, jeans and black shoes.
The second suspect is an Asian woman with very long dark hair. She was wearing a parker-style jacket with a distinctive badge on the left arm.
Anyone who recognises any of the offenders is urged to contact the police or Crimestoppers with information.
Sgt Lesley Holliday, of Selby Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “It is important that shoppers remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour straight away.
“When out shopping ensure you are on your guard at all times and keep your belongings close to you and you handbag shut.”
