AN EXCITING project to boost employability skills within the power sector at Selby College, has been honoured by the New Engineering Foundation in its inaugural Innovation Awards.
The Powerskills UK project was Highly Commended as the best example of innovation in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) training programme at NEF’s Innovisions conference in London last month.
Powerskills UK is a model of excellence nationally that has allowed private and public sector organisations the opportunity to create innovative teaching that is designed to support the specific learning needs identified by the rapid growth in the renewable energy sector.
Powerskills UK Project Director Ann Dobbs said: “It’s a real honour to receive this award so early in our development. The Powerskills brand was only established a year ago. However, in that time it has enjoyed enormous success. We’ve already seen the number of students on apprenticeship programmes grow and we’re providing more bespoke training for a range of businesses right across the sector. I’m absolutely delighted that the project has been recognised.”
