Pupils' art to feature in exhibition

WINNING artwork by a group of Goole school pupils has been entered into a touring exhibition which will visit Howden at the end of the month.

Paintings and drawings by 12 finalists in the Drax Power Limited Art In The Community competition are to be shown at Howden Minster, from February 22.

Art In The Community is part of Drax Power Station's community relations programme designed to encourage and develop art appreciation as part of the company's support for education and to promote art learning within the National Curriculum.

The tour follows an award ceremony at Drax Power Station where the finalists and their schools were awarded prize money totalling more than 2,500.

The full list of winners and runners up:

5–7 years: 1st – Elle McKeon – Selby Community Primary; 2nd – Tye Smith – Marshlands Primary; 3rd – Chloe Smith – Snaith Primary

7–11 years: 1st – Heather Cole – Camblesforth Primary; 2nd – Eloise Wilburn – Pollington in Balne Primary; 3rd – Aston Harrison – Whitley and Eggborough

11–14 years: 1st – Megan Griffiths – Goole High School; 2nd – Ben Pike – Brayton College; 3rd – Niamh Henderson – Goole High School

14–18 years: 1st – Emma Thompson – Brayton College; 2nd – Beth Halkon – Goole High School; 3rd – Wojciech Wojda – Brayton College

Prior to the display at Howden Minster, the artwork is on show at the Morrisons store in Selby until February 21.
