Reducing carbon footprint with solar panels in Selby
GREEN-minded trustees of Selby Community Centre are aiming to reduce their carbon footprint with the installation of a solar panel on the roof of their building.
They’ve agreed to a number of projects in a bid to reduce costs, having recently installed new energy-efficient boilers, and are applying for grant-funding to replace double glazing as well as the solar panel scheme at the Scott Road site.
Trust chairman Coun Steve Shaw-Wright said: “The trustees have invested in a new heating system, and hope to be successful with a funding application for new windows, but we’ve decided to install the solar panels as soon as possible.
“We’re investing about £15,000 in the project and hope to have the work completed in a matter of weeks.
“According to the contractor, the community centre roof is ideally situated for this type of installation, and the Community Trust will save money on its running cost and could make money selling any surplus energy back to the national grid.”
