MAJOR refurbishment work at a school in Rawcliffe has given a sparkling new look to its kitchen and a classroom.
Head teacher Hilary Leach said the refurbishment, which cost in the region of £70,000, was the first major works that had been done at Rawcliffe Bridge Primary since the 1980s and had provided a much-needed upgrade to the school.
She said the years five and six children now had a larger classroom to accommodate extra pupils and the kitchen had become more high-tech as a result of the investment.
She added: “The building work has taken six weeks and things now look much better – it’s an excellent job. The years five and six classroom has been extended into the hall area and has been completely refursbished. We used to have 11 children in the class and now we have 17 so we needed the extra space. The room was used as a utility room for music and other lessons and now has been puropse-built for the older children in school.
“The kitchen has been completly refitted. We have a bain marie, a hot cupboad to keep food piping hot, a brand new dishwasher, new serving hatch and other fixtures and fittings. It looks really great and the children are proud to have lunch in a fantastic new kitchen and dining area. It is distinctly improved.”
She further added: “I have been here for nine years and this is the first major investment in that time. Staff and children are thrilled by this and it has brought the refurbished areas into the 21st century.”
