Hospitality and Catering Students at Selby College are planning to cash in on Yorkshires growing reputation for quality food with a special charity recipe book.
SELBY College students are planning to cash in on Yorkshire’s growing reputation for quality food with a special charity recipe book.
The book, aptly titled All the Very Best from Yorkshire, is the follow up to the award-winning The Sweetest Thoughts recipe book, which raised more than £3000 for Macmillan Nurses and Cancer Research UK.
The initial project was inspired by the plight of former Selby College student Scott Robinson, who lost his battle with testicular cancer in 2010 aged just 18.
Launched with the help of a £10 loan from the Tenner Tycoon initiative, The Sweetest Thoughts captured the hearts of people the world over with books being sold as far afield as Australia, Kenya and New Zealand to name a few.
Now he students are hoping to surpass that achievement with this latest venture as Guidance and Support Tutor Angie Hobden explained, “When Scott passed away it was a huge shock, he was a very popular young man with a bright future ahead of him in the Hospitality and Catering Industry, so it came as no real surprise that his classmates should want to do something to remember him. Since then, subsequent year groups have continued to support and develop the project.”
She continued, “It is that compassion and commitment to the cause that has seen us launch our own dedicated website and develop the idea of a truly Yorkshire recipe book, celebrating the people and products of God’s Own County. However, this time we want to give ALL the money to charity, so we are inviting businesses from right across the region to sponsor a page, or section in the book – whatever they can afford – and hopefully this will generate the revenue needed to cover the publication costs.”
Although, the team remains tight-lipped about when they expect the finished publication to go on sale to the public they have indicated that it might be ready just in time for people all over the world to share a very Yorkshire Christmas.
