Son's appeal for First aid
A PLEA for life-saving cash is being made by Snaith businessman Nick Megson on behalf of Community First Responders.
The paramedic volunteers recently rushed Nick's father Gordon to hospital when he suffered from complications after triple heart by-pass surgery.
And says Nick: "They may have saved his life, and now I want to put something back by helping let the public know what a terrific job they do.
"Hopefully, this will lead to money-raising and sponsorship activities so that they can buy another couple of heart-resuscitating defibrillators and support packs."
The single defibrillator unit they currently have means that they often have to prioritise calls, and may be unable to respond if an ambulance is held up or delayed.
Says Nick: "The unit had 200 emergency calls in the last nine months, which puts it under terrific pressure.
"With more kit they could do more, its as simple as that."
Community First Responder teams are trained by Yorkshire Ambulance Service to stabilise patients and keep them alive until the ambulance arrives.
Those few minutes are lifesaving.
Added Nick: "A set of kit costs 1,800, and can save a lot of lives. Think about it."
He cites his brother Kevin, who raised 50,000 for a prostate-cancer after suffering from the disease himself..
Nick said: "If he can do it, so can we."
