Summer fun for the kids

YOUNGSTERS have no excuse to be bored in the school holidays as East Riding of Yorkshire Council's Summer Scorcha programme is fast approaching.

Distributed with June's edition of East Riding News, School's Out provides an action packed programme of sport, play and recreational activities for the summer holidays including full details of the Summer Scorcha programme.

Extra copies are available from schools, leisure centres, libraries, tourist information centres and customer service centres.

The programme includes the ever-popular play ranger sessions.

Children and young people can have a go at balloon modelling, woodwork, giant jenga, as well as parachute and team games, funky crafts and stilt walking.

The sessions are free and are suitable for children aged five to 14-years-old.

Booking a place is recommended either by filling in the booking form in the School's Out brochure or by visiting the council's website at www.eastriding.gov.uk.

ERYC's play and early years projects officer, Vicky Jude said: "We want to promote different sporting activities that are available throughout the East Riding, so that children can come along, find something they enjoy and carry on with it in the the future.

"By encouraging children to become more active, find new interests and develop the fitness habit for life, the Scorcha programme is helping to overcome problems such as obesity and anti-social behaviour, and the best part of this is that it's really good fun."
