Ten years of twinning

NEWS: News.

NEWS: News.

A DECADE of twinning is being marked in Selby this year - but more host families are needed.

This year is the 10th anniversary of the Selby twinning with the German town of Filderstadt and visitors will be crossing the Channel to spend time in North Yorkshire between September 3-8.

A spokesman said: “Recently some UK members have left the group and we are looking for new hosts who may wish to join the group and make the return trip to Filderstadt next year.

“You do not have to speak German to host, even though some of the Germans say they speak little English you would not be given a person who did not match up with you in some way.”

During the visit there will be a trip to Brodsworth Hall, a pub quiz, a tour of Selby by a local historian, a party evening and a coach excursion to Whitby including fish and chips!

Anyone who would like to be involved, or would like to receive further information about the twinning experience, should contact Karen Mann, Selby Twinning Secretary on 01757 708449.

Events have been organised to raise funds for the visit, the first is sceheduled for Saturday March 23 with a race night at the Unicorn, starting at 8.30pm - everyone welcome, prizes for winning owners and jockeys.

And then on Saturday May 11 there is a Modern Jive Social Dance starting at 7.30pm at Selby Community Centre.

Dancers and non dancers are welcome, entry is £5.

The spokesman added: “Both events will be lots of fun and everyone is welcome to attend.”
