1.30pm - Counter Terrorism Unit police have been granted a warrant of further detention for seven days, pending further enquiries and the outcome of forensic examinations.
9.30am - GOOLE residents are being asked to remain alert and vigilant but not alarmed following the arrest of a local man under the Terrorism Act 2000.
The 31-year-old was arrested on suspicion of offences under the Explosives Act on Wednesday but was taken to a police station in West Yorkshire yesterday (Thursday) for questioning by officers from the Counter Terrorism Unit (Leeds).
He was arrested after potentially explosive material was seized from a residential property in Fourth Avenue.
The material has been sent for forensic examination.
As a precautionary measure and in the interests of public safety, police officers cordoned off the immediate area whilst a thorough search was carried out by a bomb disposal team from Catterick Garrison and any potentially dangerous material was safely removed.
The property presents no risk to local residents and the cordon was lifted on Wednesday morning.
Chief Superintendent Pat Geenty, divisional commander for the East Riding of Yorkshire, said: "This is an ongoing investigation led by the Counter Terrorism Unit (Leeds) supported by officers from Humberside Police.
"I recognise that local people may have concerns as a result of this arrest and our Neighbourhood Policing Team will be out in the area as usual to speak to anyone who may have concerns.
"Local police officers are meeting with representatives of all sections of the community to keep them as informed as we can about the investigation. We value their support whilst inquiries continue.
"We would ask people to remain alert and vigilant but not to be alarmed and we are grateful for the assistance, support and understanding of people locally."
A warrant had been executed at the property by Humberside Police officers earlier on Wednesday in connection with a separate criminal inquiry.
