SHEDDING pounds to gain pounds for the Thomas Cammack Appeal fund is the aim of a weight-watcher from Selby who started out on her quest this week to get fighting fit.

Sara Worker, 35, of St Leonard’s Avenue, did her first three sessions on Monday, yesterday and today at the Core Fitness Toning Centre in Micklegate, Selby, following a weigh-in and induction day on Friday.

She said: “I am more than happy to help Thomas. Losing weight is a personal thing but I have decided to tie this in with trying to get fitter. There have been lots of things happening to raise funds and lots more planned. These include a millionaires’ ball, a children’s fun event at Creepy Crawlies fun factory in York and lots more.”

The event organiser of fund-raisers for the Thomas Cammack Appeal has also been hard at work drumming up interest from supporters across the region.

Morrisons supermarket in Selby raised more than £2,000, a pro-am go-karting event in York involving a team from Minster FM and Thomas’ dad Richard raised more than £4,000 and a Valentine’s Under 16s disco at the Londesborough Hotel in Selby organised by Sharon Senior and Stella Snowball raised a magnificent £700.

On Friday Selby Abbey Primary School held a dress down day – funds to be counted – and also on Friday children and staff of Acorns Montessori Nursery in Camblesforth raised more than £125 with a pyjama day and cake and bun stall and a karaoke evening at the Riverside bar in Ousegate raised £250.

Celebrities from across the world of sport and entertainment have also been tweeting their support and pledging their help.

These include Arsenal Football Club which has donated signed photographs of current players for auction and Yorkshire Cricket Club which has agreed to send club merchandise for auction as well as offering the prize of a coaching session with Geoffrey Boycott to the highest bidder, tickets for a future international match and a Yorkshire v Lancashire Twenty20 game.

And author Geoffrey Archer has offered a signed limited leather-bound edition of his short stories for auction.

People can donate to the appeal via text message: simply Text Thom97 to 70070 and donate £1-£10. To help email sara@thethomascammackappeal.co.uk or go to www.bmycharity.com/ThomasCammackAppeal for full details.
