Three cases of copper cable theft

COPPER cable thefts at three separate locations are being investigated by police.

Between 5pm on Friday July 3 and 9am on Monday July 6, 300 metres of copper cabling was taken from a gas site at an adjacent dirt track off High Street in Barmby-On-The-Marsh.

It is believed a wire mesh fence was cut to gain access.

Then between 9.30am on Tuesday July 7 and 9am on Thursday July 9, a door was forced open to gain access to the Hallstone Developments Site on Breighton Airfield. Wiring, containing copper, was cut from plant and electrical equipment.

One hundred metres of copper cable was also removed from underground on the Cliffe Road area in North Newbald some time between 8am on Tuesday July 7 and 2pm on Wednesday July 8.

It is believed some form of digging equipment was used to obtain the copper cable and police are unclear if the thieves have been posing as legitimate workmen while committing the crimes.

A Humberside Police spokesman said: "If you see any excavation work, road works or similar taking place in circumstances which make you suspicious about the authenticity of the workmen, please contact Humberside Police on 0845 60 60 222."

Anyone who has any information in connection with the thefts are asked to phone the number above quoting CJ/1687885/09, CG/1687944/09 and CG/1688106/09.
