Trial opening for centre
SPORTY Goole folk are being urged to take advantage of a trial opening at the town's leisure centre.
The North Street facility will be opening its doors on August bank holiday Monday to gauge the public's response.
The centre is usually closed but a trial has been agreed following consultation with users and discussions between East Riding of Yorkshire Council ward members Pat O'Neil and Keith Moore with managers David Halkon and Roger Ibson.
Councillor Moore told the Courier: "Bank holidays are a time, we believe, many people would like to access and enjoy the facilities.
"Managers claim they have tried this in the past and it has not been viable, however, following our discussions they have agreed to open this August bank holiday Monday until 2pm.
"We would urge residents both locally and from surrounding rural areas to take advantage of the forthcoming August bank holiday Monday opening to hopefully enable the facility to be open for the other bank holidays.
"Following this trial we shall be meeting with the the leisure Centre Managers to assess the take up."
Councillor Jane Evison, ERYC's portfolio holder for cultural services, housing and public protection said: "This trial is being carried out following discussions with customers by the leisure centre into customer's preferred opening times around bank holidays.
"It is common practice for leisure centres to review their opening hours to provide the best service for customers.
"This was something the leisure centre was working on with the customer forum before the initial contact from the ward members."
