Unemployment fall in Selby and Ainsty welcomed by area’s MP
NEWS: News.
A FALL in unemployment both regionally and nationally has been welcomed by Selby and Ainsty MP Nigel Adams.
The unemployment rate is 7.7 per cent, down 0.1 per cent on the quarter according to the office of National Statistics. It also said there were 2.49 million unemployed people, down 37,000 on the quarter nationally.
Regionally, Mr Adams said figures out last Wednesday, showed yet another fall in unemployment in Selby and Ainsty.
He added: “The figure of 1350 on Job Seekers’ Allowance represents a 26.4 per cent fall in unemployment in the constituency since the new Government took over in May 2010. I’m delighted that unemployment has fallen yet again in Selby and Ainsty. I will continue to make this my priority as MP and there will be no complacency in working to ensure that the economic recovery continues.”
He further added: “I am thrilled with these figures. Unemployment continues to fall and getting the figures down has been my priority since I was elected. It’s good to see more people employed. Two weeks ago I was at Prime Minister’s Questions and the PM thanked private businesses in the area and Jobseekers in Selby for helping to bring unemployment down.”
