Longman’s Hill primary school have took part in a special comenius project that has seen European volunteers visit the school.

The initiative saw a cluster of men and women from countries such as Spain, France and Romania visit the school to help share ideas on teaching as well as other interesting subjects.

The group were welcomed to Selby with a recpetion held at the Town Hall, where historian David Lewis delivered a presentation on the history of the town.

He talked about Selby Abbey - which the group were planning on visiting - as well as other historical aspects of the town such as the swing bridge, Cochranes Shipyard and the three swans symbol.

Longman’s Hill headteacher Jonathan Harris says that the project, referred to as the Grundtvig Volunteer Passport project, has been a huge success and that useful ideas have been exchanged and strong links have been formed.

Members of staff from the school visited Poland last year as part of the same project so the favour was returned this year.
