Connor Blades, currently in Year 10 at the school, has been successful in winning the FutureChef North East Regional Final.

He will now represent the North East in the FutureChef National Final, hosted by Westminster Kingsway College on Monday March 18.

Connor is being supported by Richard Blades and mentored by Chris Finnigan who is the head chef of the Drovers Arms in Skipwith.

Connor’s winning menu was as follows:

Pan-fried breast of pigeon with a wild mushroom and pearl barley risotto, Chantennay carrots, Cavelo Nero, coffee jelly, coffee foam and red wine jus.

The dessert was a chocolate and cherry garden - hot chocolate fondant, chocolate soil, Kirsch-soaked cherries and pistachio cream.

A school spokesman said: “Connor has also been successful with his entry for ‘The Golden Apron’ competition. Connor is one of 16 out of 500 entrants to get through to Heat 1 of the competition.”
