A former Sherburn woman has had one of her works selected for a prestigous exhibition in London.

Susan Lawton’s landscape painting ‘Breathing the night air’ was one of 80 artworks chosen from over a thousand entries for the Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize 2013 exhibition.

Sue’s painting is a large atmospheric oil landscape based on one of her favourite views in the Yorkshire Dales where she now lives with her partner Ian and two teenage children.

The exhibition opened on February 18 and runs until Saturday.

Sue said: “I am delighted to represent the drama of the northern landscape in such an important exhibition.”

Former Sherburn High School student Sue has exhibited in galleries and museums around the north, with solo shows at Nunnington hall near Helmsley, The Staithes Gallery near Whitby, Bowes Museum, Harrogate and Brantwood, the home of John Ruskin in Coniston, Cumbria.

Her work has gained recognition from collectors in the UK and the USA.
