A LOCAL bank have come up with a unique way of helping to raise funds for the Selby Hands of Hope.

Staff and customers at the Halifax branch in Gowthorpe have put on a name-the-bear competition, and the cause has been well-backed.

Samantha Williams, customer manager at the branch, praised the Hands of Hope charity and also their own campaign saying: “As a branch we were wanting to support the local community through fundraising and volunteering.

“We chose the Hands of Hope and we’re now looking at getting involved in more events like this in the future.

“There’s a number of events in the New Year so we hopefully can get some more fundraisers arranged.”

Meanwhile, SHOH have finalised details regarding their final event of 2012, with a charity football game taking place.

Sunday, December 30 sees two teams contesting to win the ‘LRB Trophies Cup’, which Steve Butler has kindly offered to donate in his role as sponsor for match. Guest star is SHOH patron and rugby league player Gareth Ellis.

Thorpe United Football Club have kindly offered their facilities for the day, which will include the use of their tuck shop with refreshments being sold before and during the game.

Having won the inaugural match last year, Tom O’Neill has handed the reins of O’Neill All-Shapes over to the wise head of his father, Martin O’Neill, who will be hoping to retain the cup.

It is free to attend the match with raffle tickets available to purchase during the match if you wish to help show your support.

The winner of the raffle and other prizes will then be drawn in the club bar once the on-field action has ended.

Both teams and supporters will then retire to both the Malt Shovel and Albion Vaults for football quiz and pub golf afterwards. Please come down and support what will be a jam-packed afternoon as SHOH end the year in style.Kick-off on the day is 10.30am.
