Hook'd on scooters
HOOK turned mod on Saturday when the first ever scooter rally took the village by storm.
The Sotheron Arms, known locally as Heppy's, welcomed all makes and models with everything from Lambrettas to Vespas to the event organised by Howie Garland and the Goole and District Scooter Club.
Trophies were awarded for the best vehicles on the night, with the scooter of the event going to Dave Martinson of Garthorpe - judged by Rob Sharpe, Colin Kay and Cliff Thompson.
Howie told the Courier it was impossible to gauge how many people had attended but at one point there were at least 100 scooters parked at the pub.
Around eight clubs in total turned up, with former Goole resident Darren Masterman travelling the furthest, coming 117 miles from the Wirral in two hours and 20 minutes on his 1971 Lambretta.
"It was excellent and next year's has already been agreed," said Howie.
He thanked everyone who helped on the day - Owen, Ricky Poulton, Mick Partington, Dave 'Digger' Roberts, Andrew Barrass, Patty Howard, Andy Harrison, Pete Kreamer, Gaz McGeever; competition judges; DJs including Dave Bullock, Johnno, Steve and Joe Ward, as well as all the women for their fetching and carrying; landlord Jason and the bar staff.
"Thanks to everyone for making it such a success," added Howie. "It was a brilliant day."
