THIS week saw Dunscroft Welfare Under-8s travel to a tournament run by Goole Town Tigers.
Although not performing to their usual high standards in the early games, they managed to progress through the league stages.
They won their group taking maximum points from the five games scoring 16 goals with none conceded.
The quarter-final
found Dunscroft drawn against their old friends from Thorne Colliery.
This proved to be the sternest test the boys had faced for some time in a game dominated by the resolute defence of a fine Thorne side, and some first-class saves from the man of the match Thorne 'keeper to keep the score at 0-0 after extra time.
The penalty shoot-out, however, was decided by some fine saves from Luke in the Dunscroft goal managing to save every penalty faced and Dunscroft winning 2-0.
The semi-final against Wheatley Wanderers was a one-sided affair with Dunscroft running out easy winners 3-0, with the goals scored by James (2) and Joel.
The boys by now had lost all their early tournament nerves and put in a fine display in the final against Group 2 winners, Ferrybridge, to win the game and the tournament with two fine long-range efforts from Luke.
This was another fine effort from the boys, winning their second tournament in as many weeks, playing teams from all over the Yorkshire area, scoring 21 goals this week with none conceded.
