HEAD of PE at Howden Senior School Jon Skurr is hitting the dizzy heights of international rugby - coaching the Ireland Sevens squad.
Jon (28) has taught at the school for seven years and himself has been playing rugby union professionally during that time on the sevens circuit.
He told the Courier how he was selected for the top job: "I was approached by the Irish RFU to play originally and then they asked if I would coach the team. I had an interview and then was appointed head coach in December."
Jon travels out to spend time with his team about once a month at their Dublin base, near to Lansdown Road.
"We have a lot of tournaments coming up so I will be going over a lot more," he explained.
"It was just an opportunity that arose that I couldn't turn down. I will get to travel the world.
"The school have been very supportive and I must thank them and the head Andrew Williams for allowing me the time away from school."
Tournaments coming up for Jon include the World Cup Qualifiers in Poland, Denmark and Germany . If the squad do qualify then they move on and get to play the likes of England and New Zealand.
Jon will also be taking his team to Dubai for the World Cup in March 2009.
"I deal with the elite Irish players to help them make the step up from sevens to full squad," he added.
