ON A bitterly cold morning, Goole travelled to Driffield for the return league game staged at the Driffield Cricket Club complex.
Hoping to complete the double and keep on track their hopes of the league title, Goole pressed for the whole of the f
irst half forcing corners into double figures.
But, apart from two half chances falling to Hannah Beare, the Wildcats were living up to their name and fighting for every ball.
With a 0-0 score at the break, which was totally unexpected by the Goole camp, the second half proceeded very much the same with Goole forcing corner after corner and the home side defending deep with their 'keeper in top form.
With only 16 minutes to go, a rare break from Driffield almost saw them go in front but Goole 'keeper Rhiannon Brown stood firm.
Goole were switching players in an attempt to make the breakthrough and with only 14 minutes left it came when a move saw poacher Katie Dennis score from close range after the brave Wildcats 'keeper had saved the first attempt.
Almost immediately the floodgates opened and Issabelle Hassleman netted a second, followed by a great 20-yard effort from Hannah Beare to make it 3-0.
For Goole, captain Sophie Acaster had marshalled the defence well and also made several telling runs into Driffield territory.
With the three goals in only five minutes, Goole saw out the game but the scoreline does not reflect how difficult it was for the visitors nor the outstanding rearguard action performed by the hosts.
