LOCAL schools from the Courier area took part in the Drax Cup yesterday.
Carlton, Drax, Hook, Snaith, and Parkside were part of eight local primary schools to play their first games in the cricket competition with a chance to play in the finals at Headingley Carnegie Stadium in June.

England Ladies' Test player, Katherine Brunt met the teams and offered skills training at the festival-style mini-tournament which was held at Goole Town Cricket Club.

A total of 270 schools from across Yorkshire are taking part in The Drax Cup 2008, making it the country's biggest cricket competition for the under 9s age group.

It is sponsored by Drax Power Limited and organised by The Yorkshire County Cricket Club in conjunction with The Yorkshire Cricket Board and The Yorkshire Schools' Cricket Association.
