GILBERDYKE ice skating star Connor Wilkinson recently returned from a competition in Belgium.
The 12-year-old from Lindum Close competed in the Kempen Trophy in the Minimum A Boys final against Thomas Kennes from Holland, where he had to perform various moves to impress judges, and finished runner-up.
"He was being marked by the Internationa
l Judging System which comprises of ten people who are all looking for different things," said his mum Joanne.
"It is very strict but Connor did very well considering the boy he was competing against had already skated at this level last year.
"We were both pleased with how he skated but he didn't perform to his best."
She revealed that he scored 46.46 points, which is considered good for his level.
Connor attended an ice skating 'perfecting techniques' course at Romford Ice Arena last Wednesday and Thursday with World and Olympic coach Kathy Casey, who has produced many US National, World and Olympic competitors and has been coaching elite skaters for over 30 years.
Over 60 skaters joined some 20 judges at the event and at the end of it Connor received a certificate for successfully completing the seminar.
The youngster also finished first at the Telford Open level six championship three weeks ago.
His next competition is at the Deeside Open in June, when he hopes to be competing at level seven.
He is currently competing at level six, two below reaching novice, which he aims to reach if he successfully passes the six tests that are required.
"He is hoping to do all of the tests in the next six months, and then he can compete at novice as long as he is under 15."
Connor has been skating for the last five years and trains at Hull Ice Arena five days a week, putting in over seven hours of training, including an additional dance workshop to help build his upper body strength and improve his posture.
