SWINEFLEET came away with a point against an Epworth Town side boasting 37-year-old ex-professional and Premiership player, Leigh Jenkinson, in their ranks.
Indeed, Jenkinson at left back had a tough time against Swinefleet's Lee Burnitt, no respe
cter of past reputations.
In fact, it was Burnitt who opened the scoring after 18 minutes, following a fine move starting with Wayne Sykes in central midfield and with Sam Nicholls providing a quality run and cross from the left, with Burnitt steaming in at the far post to convert.
Swinefleet survived two scares during the first half, with Epworth twice hitting the woodwork from long range, but at the interval went in ahead.
After the break, the five-man Swinefleet midfield of Burnitt, Nicholson, Sykes, G Noon and Nicholls, enjoyed more of the ball, and with Sammy Woad mastering things at the back, looked to be in a comfortable position. Dale Noon just hooked a shot wide on 62 minutes and L Burnitt again went close on 68 minutes. Keeper, Matty Burnitt, produced a marvellous save on 72 minutes, and again on 78 minutes, but was unable to prevent the rebound being followed up by Ellis, the Epworth number 10, who levelled the score.
Swinefleet play their last game of the season away at BBM on Friday night.

THE second team was again guilty of squandering a two goal advantage; in a match that would have seen them automatically promoted had they won, as nearest rivals Jailhouse could only manage a draw in their game.
First half goals from Martyn Hill and Andrew Severn put them in a commanding position before the home side pulled a goal back just five minutes before the interval.
After half-time, Epworth scored two further goals to go ahead 3-2, with Jack Howard scoring in the 77th minute to equalise. Drama was to come with firstly, the match day referee awarding Swinefleet a penalty on 83 minutes and then changing his mind to award a free-kick, and then disallowing the goal scored by Howard from the free-kick, courtesy of the Epworth linesman.
Swinefleet's final match was home to the League champions Mallard on Wednesday, with at least a point required to secure promotion.
