Eastrington Village 1 Howden Town 2
HOWDEN Town finally returned to County League action with a hard earned victory against local rivals Eastrington Village.
Looking to avenge an opening day defeat Howden suffered an early blow when a well struck shot gave the home side the lead.
In an open game several half chances were created by both sides and the visitors were grateful to find keeper Adam Stevens on top form.
Howden's pressure finally paid off when the referee awarded a penalty for handball, and despite having to retake his successful kick Tomasz Labudda made no mistake second time around.
The second half followed a similar pattern as both sides looked for the winner.
It eventually came after a goalmouth scramble ended with an Eastrington defender putting the ball into his own net.
The win lifted Howden one place up the table, and they will be hoping to build on the success when they entertain North Newbald this Saturday.
It is hoped this fixture will also see the team finally play a home fixture in Howden, at the Senior School.
