A close thing for Rangers

Victoria Rangers FC 5 FC Victoria Hotel 4

RANGERS eventually came out on top after this poor performance against local rivals FC Victoria Hotel last weekend.

Rangers created some good early chances but failed to put them away.

The Hotel 'keeper did make a number of good saves with a point-blank effort off Matty Whitaker being the best.

The under-performing home side consequently found themselves 3-0 down after some poor defending.

Rangers woke up before the interval when a Whitaker cross found Jamie Jackson whose diving header found the bottom corner of the net to make a half-time score of 3-1.

Rangers came out for the second half in a more determined mood and started to play some good football.

It was not long before they were on the scoresheet again when Neil Huntington, who was introduced at half-time, had an instant impact on the game when he volleyed home a Whitaker cross.

He then coolly finished a Jason Gibbon cross to bring the scores level.

As the home side were now well on top, it was not long before they took the lead for the first time when Huntington once more found the net at the far post from a Gibbon cross, which completed his hat-trick.

Huntington went on to score his fourth when he finished an Andy Gill cross with a spectacular overhead kick to make the score 5-3.

The visitors scored again late on when they hit the net from a free-kick on the edge of the box.

In the end the under par Rangers deserved this win against a highly competitive Hotel side who played their part in the match.

The Mansfield Brewery man of the match went to Neil Huntington.

This weekend Rangers play host to Rawcliffe United at Western Road, 10.30am kick-off in the final game this year.
