A hat-trick of bronze medals for swimmer

Wistow teenager Oli Hackwell has picked up a hat-trick of bronze medals as a member of the Tadcaster Swim Squad competing in a B grade gala at the Leeds Aquatic Centre.

Swimming in the 13/14 age group, Oli was third in the 50-metres butterfly and 50m freestyle – qualifying for next month’s Yorkshire Championships in both – as well as the 100m breaststroke.

He was among 21 swimmers taking part in 80 races, nearly every one of which produced personal best times.

Also competing well were Phillipa Caine of Church Fenton, Benjamin Colling of Ulleskelf and Meredith Armstrong of Appleton Roebuck. Altogether there were seven times fast enough to qualify for the Yorkshire Championships.
