An improving Belles matched a beautiful afternoon at Selby College with their best performance of the season so far as they kept a clean sheet against Pool.

With the visitors looking to play a passing game through their midfield, Belles countered by denying them the space and opportunity to create any real chances to trouble keeper Michelle Morton.

As Trish Abbott and Emily Thompson dealt with threats down the wing, Emily Whitehead and Kelly Walker added to an impressive display.

And with Melissa Till and Jodie Cliff tracking back well while tireless player of the week Katie Todd held tight at the centre, Charlotte Ward provided the ball for Anya Limbert to break the deadlock on 35 minutes.

And it was Anya who sealed the game late on when she raced through again to beat the keeper, with Ciara McEvoy and Laura Whitaker also prominent on the pitch.

They all seemed to come at once as Belles celebrated their first-ever league win with a goal-bonanza. Yet the Eagles were initially flying, scoring in less than five minutes, before Milly Ash bagged the first of a handful of goals as Brayton controlled things with their outstanding pass, move and vision game. Anna Linton added a brace and Lucy Bingham was player of the match while midfielders Emmi Blackmore and Erin Simpson had a couple of good efforts turned away. Charley Midson, keeper Millie James and captain Rhian Till were also on song.

Megan Birch and Kelly Thornton bagged a hat-trick apiece as Brayton’s open-age side got back to winning ways in style with Jess Dunn completing a magnificent seven.

Kelly’s second followed a neat interchange in midfield by Eve Cogan and Leah Rogers and she then crossed for Birch to complete a first-half trio.

But player of the match was Vicky Holleran as she dealt with the home side’s long-ball tactics and aerial pressure all afternoon without missing a header.
