Belles wake up in time to finish off comeback girls

An initially determined Brayton side managed to hold off a second-half comeback from their opponents before running out clear winners of this match.

Controlling the game as they tested Westella with constructive passing, Belles opened the scoring with a super break from halfway that saw Rosie Hutton finish well after running onto an Abbott pass.

Emily Morton then added a brace but Belles were subsequently punished twice as they fell half asleep at the start of the second half. However, Hutton completed the tally as Shannon Yorke and captain Gemma Robinson shared the player of the match award for their defending.

After equalising with a low drive into the net from striker Daisy Erskine set up by Jamie Leigh Ginty and player of the week Molly Harrison, Belles were made to pay for leaving gaps at the back.

But there were fine displays from Tavie Brown, Niamh Crossland and Amy Dallison with Isobel Bromley making a welcome return from illness.

With the scoreline failing to reflect how well the Brayton girls played as Molly Pryor led the way – they conceded three goals in the dying minutes of the game – they were left somewhat disheartened after coming within inches of the net on several occasions.

But they subsequently came from behind to record their third friendly win on the bounce when Milly Ash smashed home the clincher with just eleven seconds to play for a 2-1 victory.

Millie James was also on target with Emmi Blackmore player of the match, Alex Linton and Mathew Whitaker officiating and Bingham Plumbing and Heating sponsoring the team.
