Better defence was needed
Swinefleet 0 Brumby 4
SWINEFLEET found themselves two goals down in the first ten minutes of this semi-final clash with both goals being the Fleets own fault by not dealing with corners from the away team.
The game was pretty even for the rest of the half with very little chances as most of the play was in the middle of the pitch. The away team made it three just before the break with a strike that gave Burnitt, in goal, no chance.
Swinefleet started the stronger in the second half with youngsters Barker and Vause running at Brumby's defence and causing them some problems. Barker laid the ball off to Dale Noon who tried to lob the keeper, but he just got his fingers tips to the ball. Sam Nicholls put some good crosses over, but the ball was just not dropping in the right places and the visitors managed to scramble the ball away every time. The last ten minutes saw the Fleet hit the crossbar and then Gary Noon went close with a long range free kick. Swinefleet then gave the away team another goal in the last seconds of the game.
On the day some better defending by all the team could have prevented three goals and may be given themselves more of a chance against the best team in the Scunthorpe league.
Marshlands man of match was Lee Philpott. Next week Swinefleet are at south park to BBM, players to meet 1.30pm. Bonus ball winner: no.19 Jamie Burns.
