Boro gain revenge in five-goal derby thriller

HEMINGBROUGH United Reserves exacted revenge for a defeat by Selby RSSC a fortnight ago, with a hard fought 3-2 win in an entertaining local derby.

The home side began the brighter of the two sides and managed to stretch the Boro backline on a number of occasions during the first half, however, the visiting defence put up some strong resistance throughout.

The opening goal arrived on 15 minutes when Boro failed to deal with a cross from the left and the Brassa forward nipped in front of his marker to head home.

However, moments later the visitors restored parity when Mike Young leapt to head home Liam Hallam’s corner.

Adie Wood then went close when his left foot strike from 20 yards struck the post as Boro finished the half the stronger side.

The second half saw the home side gain the territorial advantage, however, despite enjoying the lion’s share of the possession, they found keeper Luke Allderidge in fine form for the visitors frustrating a number of Selby RSSC opportunities.

Boro took the lead for the first time on the hour mark, when good work down the right from Oli Falkingham and Neil Darley, resulted in a cross from the latter that allowed Liam Gautrey to loop a header over the keeper and into the net.

The lead did not last long, however, and almost a minute later the home side levelled, when Falkingham headed past the stranded Allderidge after he was under pressure from the home forward for an unfortunate own goal.

Despite the setback Boro responded superbly and with 20 minutes remaining, scored what proved to be the winner when Ricki Hutton outmuscled his man and fired a low strike into the bottom corner to give the visitors an important win.

Liam Hallam was the awarded the Crown Man of the Match with Danny Young the player’s choice.

This weekend Boro travel to runaway York Minster Engineering League Reserve C leaders Malton & Norton.
