Carlton Towers Cricket results

CARLTON Towers first team's Division Two York Senior League game at Malton proved to be a long journey for the paltry reward of three batting points.

The team consisted of seven under 20-year-olds and two over fifty.

Captain Jon Dilkes was the only player in his twenties in the team and struck 10 fours in an innings of 59 before being dismissed with the score at 88 for 6.

The tail resisted until the 44th over with Josh Haines on his first team debut being last out for a creditable 27 including 3 boundaries with a total of 153.

Melton's bowling attack was well led by Michael Linsley with a return of 5 for 54.

Malton's reply was disturbed early on by Sam Morris having James Baxter well caught by Nigel Ling, but an undefeated stand of 133 by Michael Linsley 79 not out (possibly Man of the Match) and his brother Stephen 51 not out saw Malton home in the 36th over as The Towers toiled with a ball sponsored by M&F milk deliveries to no avail.

Carlton Towers Seconds entertained top of the table Huntingdon who proceeded to post a score of 235 for 5 before declaring leaving Carlton three extra overs to chase down the target.

Skipper Martyn Denby used six bowlers although veteran Simon Boddye had his overs curtailed by injury, obviously taking heed of advice from Elders Boddye and Landers Josh Thornton took a creditable 3 for 51.

In reply Carlton openers were in no trouble but the early introduction of Marcus Johnson who bowled his 12 overs for a meagre 21 runs and took 6 wickets.

Martyn Denby 22 and Adam Mooring weighed in with 17 as the innings crumbled to 112 all out. And 3 bonus points.
