Cold fish go into hiding for Selby anglers

The sudden switch from summer to autumn weather has not helped the sport at Pollington’s Viking Fishery this week, and consequently catches have been down until the fish adjust to the new temperatures, writes Margaret Tones.

Selby Sixties’ midweek match on Deer Pond was won by H Rafferty with 68lb 4oz. Second with 47lb 8oz was R Longbottom and J Ward third with 24lb 8oz.

Viking’s regular Saturday Open was held on Hawk Pond where Castleford’s Andy Stoner took first place with 29lb 1oz.

In second place was Stuart Fotheringham of Leeds with 28lb 9oz while third place went to Knottingley’s Garth Sykes with 26lb.

Also on Saturday, Thorpe Willoughby’s club match on Fox Pond was won by Tony Dudley with 22lb 9oz.

Second with a catch of 15lb 10oz was Mally Butterfield and Dave Sawyer was third with 11lb 14oz.

Roundhill AC’s Sunday match on Deer Pond was won by G Johnson with 35lb 10oz. W Elbeck was second with 27lb 1oz and T Johnson third with 17lb 15oz.

In the Fox Pond match, 71lb 4oz brought victory for Hoyle Inn AC’s S Raper. In second place was G Barnes with 25lb 9oz while only one ounce separated third and fourth places, with J Fisher landing 22lb 6oz and J Beevers 22lb 5oz.
