Derby day victory for Goole youngsters

GOOLE Town Tigers u13s roared to victory in their derby day fixture over Howden.

The Tigers shuffled their side seeing Jamie Hunt take a stint in goal with Sam Smith, Jacob Holgate, Corey Brown and Cole Muttock all providng a solid unit at the back.

Ewan Derby and Kean Noon commanded the middle of the park as they worked hard to keep a strong Howden side at bay.

With both sides cancelling each other’s attacks out in the first half, the Tigers came out after the interval with a determination to break the deadlock.

Liam Harvey and George Cooper provided some menacing runs down the flanks as they supplied their forwards with service, however Howden continued to stifle the attacks.

Goole’s immense pressure, however, soon paid off when the Tigers won a corner and Brown’s pinpoint delivery was met by Cooper who flicked it to the back-post for Jay Sharman to finish with a bullet header.

Playing in only his second game for the Tigers, Grant Taylor was proving a danger for Howden with his pace and power offering a constant threat.

Jay Tucker was also a bit of a thorn in the visitor’s side giving the defence no time on the ball as he closed them down.

Goole’s second goal came when Derby slotted a ball through for Sharman who rounded the keeper and finished confidently.

That goal proved too much for a hard-working Howden outfit as the Tigers held on for the win.

Defender Sam Smith was a contender for Goole’s man of the match but the accolade went to Jacob Holgate for his composure on the ball and his reading of the game at the heart of the defence.
