DONCASTER KNIGHTS: Dante is looking to help Knights scupper Pirates

DONCASTER Knights’ star Dante Mama is hoping to see more of the ball in tonight’s Championship clash against Cornish Pirates at Castle Park (7.45pm).

The Zimbabwe-born back, whose favoured position is centre, has been playing on the wing since joining Knights from Premiership giants Leicester Tigers in the summer and has found the lack of running chances to date ‘frustrating’.

“I like to have ball in hand and to run with the ball,” said the 22 year-old who has been switched to full-back for tonight’s game as director of rugby Brett Davey rings the changes in a bid to kick-start the club’s season after four successive defeats.

“Hopefully I will see more of the ball and be a bit more involved tonight than I have in some games this season,” he told The Star.

Mama is hoping to be able to show Doncaster supporters, who will be seeing their favourites play at home for only the second time this season, the sort of attacking form which earned him a place in the Great Britain Students 7s side in the World Student Games in France during the summer.

“I like to run at defences and break the line and create something and I can do that better playing centre or full-back than I can do on the wing,” he said.

Pirates boast an impressive record at Castle Park and hadn’t lost there prior to last season, but Mama says it is vital that second-bottom Knights come out on top tonight.

“We’ve had some tough games this season but even so I’m still disappointed with some of our results to be honest,” he said.

“That was certainly the case at London Scottish last weekend where we lost despite making a flying start. When you score four tries away from home, like we did down there, you should be looking at winning the game - particularly when you consider how well we have been defending this season.

“Having said that, it wasn’t as though they ripped us apart. Two of their tries came from turnovers and another was a penalty try. But we need to be winning those sort of games.”
