DONCASTER RACECOURSE: Bring on the jump season

WHAT a wonderful flat season we have enjoyed here at Doncaster Racecourse. It’s been a great eight (or so!) months in which we have been treated to some dazzling displays – not least the highlight of the racing season, the Ladbrokes St Leger Festival back in September, with the anticipation and excitement surrounding Camelot’s Triple Crown attempt.

This weekend’s action marked the finale of the flat season at Doncaster, and we’re now looking forward to some glorious National Hunt action over the winter months.

Saturday’s eight race-card meeting was, of course, not only the last meeting of our own flat season, but also marked the close of the British Flat Season - and what better way for the curtain to come down on a superb campaign than on our very own Town Moor track.

As the season came to close, a series of presentations were made for 2012’s Champion Flat Owner, Godolphin, Champion Flat Trainer, John Gosden and Champion Flat Jockey, Richard Hughes. The Leading Female Jockey, Hayley Turner, and the Leading Apprentice, Amy Ryan, were also announced and the Cock O’ The North, Joe Fanning, was also crowned. A great way to end the season.

Looking ahead now, we’re gearing up for our opening fixture of the jumps season, and are busy making final preparations to the course for our Saturday, November 30 raceday, the November Handicap.

The meeting will no doubt get the season off to a fantastic start, and it is always a popular day with punters too.

November Handicap horses that are well worth keeping an eye out for include First Mohican, trained by Sir Henry Cecil and four horses from Godolphin who have a strong entry through the card.
